About Me

I have a special connection to World War II – my Oma lived in Hamburg, Germany during the war, and my Grandpa is a WWII enthusiast. I first became interested in the war, however, after reading The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom several years ago. Ever since I read her story, I've been studying the war extensively. In high school I took a semester of WWII history, and I've read many books dealing with the subject, including The Second World War by John Keegan (I highly recommend it).
Nearly all aspects of the war are fascinating to me, from the major military strategies of the warring nations to the stories of ordinary people whose lives were affected in so many ways from 1939-45. Weaponry, leaders, tactics, and battles across all the theatres of war – these are all part of a chapter in history which changed the world forever.
I think that in order to better understand a time in the past, one needs to immerse oneself in the culture of that time. There are so many ways to do that – for example, I enjoy listening to radio shows from the 40s (the golden era of radio). My favourite show is The Life of Riley. Sometimes there will be advertisements for a brand of beer, soap, soup, silverware, or Jello. Sometimes there will even be wartime propaganda about rationing or the latest victory on the warfront.
Well, back to me. I'm an amateur writer, blogger, and college student from Alberta, Canada. I blog under the pseudonym "Toblerone" (a nickname my best friend gave me back in elementary school) and history is one of my many interests. I hope you find this website interesting and informative!

Peace,

Toblerone
